Yoga Confidence Slowly Returning

If you've been following my Twitter or reading any of the recent Meditation posts you will know that my yoga confidence was pretty much at an all time low. I was still going everyday but I kept getting destroyed. By the time we hit the floor I had no energy and it was such a struggle just to get through the entire class. I've had to sit out sets of standing bow or triangle in the past, but usually I was fine once we hit the floor. During this down period, I had to sit out multiple sets in the floor series which pretty much never happens.

Well my confidence is back now and I think I know why it left in the first place.

1. The heat wave is over.

I came back from Toronto and it was over 95 degrees here everyday for the last two weeks. I thought it was just the pasadena heat but I think we were going thru a bit of a heat wave. The heat is my weakness. It makes my mind weak.

2. We had a couple of barbeques and dinners with the family.

This lead to them bringing over watermelons. See below.

3. I was trying to eat healthier but this hurt my practice.

I have been juicing (i.e. using a juicer to make fruit and vegetable juice, not shooting roids) because I do so much Bikram that I sweat out a lot of good stuff as well as bad stuff. In addition to the multiple watermelons people brought over I also had a watermelon I had bought earlier, as well as a canteloupe.

4. Eating too many melons leads to low energy.

I was consuming a lot of watermelon juice and cantaloupe juice.

5. All the foods I was consuming were high-glycemic foods.

Which meant I burned through the food really quickly and then crashed during floor series. The heat in combination with the high-glycemic foods conspired to work together. One weakened my body while the other weakened the mind which lead to total distruction. I adjusted the diet - ate some more nuts, ate some more complex carbs and it's going a lot better.
